Hunger Banquet next week!

We are hosting a HUNGER BANQUET next week! Next Friday in the Washington Room from 6 to 7:30. We will be tabling outside Mather to sell tickets and we would appreciate it if as many people as possible came and supported us and were a part of the event =) A Hunger Banquet  is a unique opportunity both to support efforts to end hunger and to experience first-hand the reality of the unequal distribution of food in the world today. World hunger is a problem that has affected millions around the world for decades and every single person can make a difference! Proceeds go to Oxfam America and to a Hartford food bank. Check Facebook for more details for the event.

So much going on and so many ways to get involved!

Hi everyone! =) So far the Amnesty International at Trinity have been extremely busy organizing and conducting events and it has been an extremely interesting past few weeks!
Pizzapalooza was an event that was a great success! Lots of people showed up enjoyed the pizza and we raised some money which was fantastic. It definitely helps us spread ward around campus of who we are and what we do.
El Groupo Yuyachkani is a fantastic and internationally renowned theatre troupe from Peru that does human rights-themed work and they came to Hartford this week! The troupe was absolutely amazing and put on a lovely show!
A third and extremely important event that the Amnesty is a part of with EROS and are collaborating a Day of Remembrance for the seven LGBTQ related suicides that happened within the last few weeks. To remember these seven people, we would like to drape seven sites on campus with black cloth to represent mourning. The draping will take place tonight (Tuesday) at 9:30 pm and we will meet at the Community Service Office. Please bring empty water bottles with you! We will fill them and use them to weigh down the tablecloths that we are using to drape. Also if anyone has any duct tape or string, please bring that too! Hope to see you all tonight!

WELCOME =) ...and Student Speakers event this Thursday night

Hi everyone! Welcome to the brand-new blog of the Amnesty International chapter of the students of Amnesty International in Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A. This blog will be a fun online space that reflects several purposes: the work and events that our chapter does, as well as a place to keep up-to-date on human rights issues throughout the world. We will be posting anything from photos from our events to links current human rights news articles. Check frequently as we get this blog up and running...we already have tons in the work!

This Thursday we start off Amnesty's events for the fall with a Student Speakers event. Many Trinity students have done some amazing work over the past few summers such as internships and projects and will talk about their experiences to other students. These students have done amazing work such as working with incarcerated people in Connecticut or volunteering in Sierra Leone. They will answer questions and show photos, too. It's an informal event and will be held over a pizza dinner. The event is open to all students, Amnesty members or not, so bring friends! At least, it's a great way to learn about summer internships and work in general. It will compliment the Common Hour event held earlier the same day by the Human Rights Studies department, which will consist of presentations by students who had the program's competitive Human Rights Summer Fellowships.

In addition, this event is an opportunity to give students a feel of the work that Trinity's Amnesty chapter does, and show them what they are getting involved in or would like to in the future. We meet every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. in the Office of Community Service & Civic Engagement.

Keep looking for more from this blog & hope to see you Thursday night!
